Learn - Monthly Contest

Monthly Theremin Contest

Theremin World is happy to re-launch the monthly contest to help encourage thereminists to practice, record and share their music. There is no cost to enter, though you must be a registered Theremin World member (register here for free). Just make sure all elements of the entry recording are in the public domain or are owned by the performer.

Send your best rendition of the monthly song to jason[at]thereminworld.com (change the [at] to an @ symbol). Along with your entry, be sure to tell us what type of theremin you used and whether or not you used any effects.

In efforts to maintain a more consistent schedule and ease administrative burdens, we're experimenting with posting the first three months together:

  • August: In the Good Old Summer Time - (MIDI sample) - Entries accepted until midnight, August 31st EDT (GMT-05:00)
  • September: Beautiful Dreamer (Stephen Foster) - (MIDI sample) - Entries accepted until midnight, Sept. 30th EDT (GMT-05:00)

The winner will be featured on the front page for the month and their song will be featured on Spellbound, the weekly theremin internet radio show. We'll sweeten the pot by sending the winners some cool ThereminWorld logo stuff.

We also need more international song suggestions so feel free to post other public domain music ideas in the contests forum.

July 2006 Contest Winner Announced!

Congratulations to Marble Field, our winner in the July 2006 Yankee Doodle song contest. Marble hails from Athens, Greece. You can listen to his entry here: MarbleField-YankeeDoodle.mp3 (~2MB, MP3)

In making his recording, Marble used a standard Etherwave Theremin, and "apart from the reverbs, I've run my theremin through E-MU's Vocal Morpher VST for the pseudo-vocal and choir parts. Recording and mixing done with Steinberg Nuendo, additional instruments by Propellerhead's Reason..."

Congratulations again Marble - we'll be sending you a brand new Theremin World T-shirt for your efforts.
