Anyone hear anything about someone hacking sites like thereminworld, and moogmusic, and taking out forum threads pertaining to a perfomrer named Bobby Dilan?

Someone sent an e-mail containing an attatchment wheich I've not opened yet, but is perporting to be a web link to threads on thereminworld in which threads have been removed by a possible jealous, or malicious individual according to the e-mailer who goes by the name of nadaO.

Don't know what that's all about. I've refered them to the powers that be.

Did you mean "Dilan" or "Bilan"?

A couple of nice folks have posted about Bobby Bilan here on TW.

Someone would likely have to hack an admin id in order to remove a thread, though.

A quick glance on the theremin world search confirms that the Bobby Bilan threads appear to be intact - at least as far as my memory serves.

Personally I'd be extremely suspicious of your attachment. Apart from anything, what would be the use of a web-link to a posting that isn't there?

To answer my own question, someone could be trying to harvest your password by directing you to a site spoofing Theremin World. Hmm. Without wishing to malign any theremin world members the Bobby Bilan postings have always struck me as a little out of step with the run of the mill TW forum postings. There might be something in my suspicions. Thomas - can you forward a copy of your mystery email, including the attachment, to

isolation "at" charlton "dot" demon "dot" co "dot" uk

and I will dissect it in a secure environment.

That's why they don't let me drive. It was spelled with a B.

That attatchment was never opened, and was deleted.

I never open stuff from someone I don't know.

Jason had trouble with someone trying to hack ThereminWorld last year but they were not successful as far as I know.

Let me know what you find out about that attachment, Gordon. I did remove the bands forums last night as they were adding very little value and were taking up a significant amount of space in the database. I hope we can keep the site running a little smoother and reduce the downtime we've experienced lately.

Ok, that's a no on malicious hacking. Thanks Jason, I'll pass that on to the sender of the question.

Jason, if you see this, I was asked to send this to you, but my e-mail is being bounced back on your contact, as well as the gentleman in question, so I'm posting it here. I dunno why he didn't just post this himself. Oh, well. Thanks,

Thomas

Hello Again Thomas,
The contact info on thereminworld still fails to send anything to Jason so would you please mind forwarding the following to him on my behalf, thanks once again for all your assistance. Have a good night.

Leigh

Hello Jason,
My apologies if I caused alarm, it certainly was not my intention but this job is important to me. Working for a famous musician is sometimes pretty treacherous. He's great but the world is full of crackpots. You should see some of the fan mail. It would put an extra curl in anyone's theremin antenna. Then there's the bad ones! I have copied below {don't wanna send an attachment and make everyone nuts again}, what happened so you can see the sitch. The attachment in question was just your 'Bands' page with all the Guess Who titles that seemed to disappear. Like I explained to Thomas, I don't know enough to create a virus or whatever, although someone sent something here last month and I'm told it was reasponsible for frying the logic board and power supply of the G-5 I'm learning to use. I wasn't too popular for opening that up. Sorry again.

Leigh

P.S. Just in case I don't find them stored, is there any easy way to retrieve the deleted postings for our archives?
PPS. FYI, There's an MP3 now on the Theremin link of BB's website that's pretty cool, so if you see a posting for that sort of thing, please don't worry, it's all good. Cheers!
