French-American thereminist and theremin collector Marc Chouarain is playing the theremin in the background:

The above audio recording is much better than the YouTube live TV performance. Of course, in a recording studio, where you can just keep redoing the part until it's right, almost anyone can be a decent thereminist.

Playing live and getting it right on the first pass is a whole different kettle o' fish.

I thought the tempo of the recorded song was a bit fast. The text is excellent and I would like to have savored the words a little more (it seems to me the YT version was a little slower).

LOL

LOL (I take this as a compliment, especially that I was playing random notes :)

No kidding, I must say that the TV recording conditions were very difficult (the sound was turning in the medium range, as often). I did my best for this beautiful song (especially the lyrics), sorry...Just proud to promote the theremin the best I can.

Best,

Marc

By the way, Benjamin's new album "La Superbe" was number 1 in France 2 weeks ago, Gold record, and I've been playing theremin on the 2 songs the most downloaded of the album :) That makes me happy :)

For those who are interested in french lyrics (hi Peter!), it is very very well written.

I recorded on the album with an Epro, and played on the TV show with a Moog 91A. Still testing...

Marc, are you using a pitch preview with your 91A?

On the video it looked as if you had some kind of monitor in your ear, but you were in the dark and it was kind of hard to tell.

Miami/Paris 50/50 - Est-ce que cela veut dire que tu es un "parami"? (a ne pas confondre avec un "paramour").

No pitch preview,
I planned to try an ear-monitor with the Epro that has a pitch preview, but never took the time yet. I'm still "fishing" the first note.
You can't see or hear much on the YT video, as it's the recording of a TV screen and sound with an iphone. I remember the label manager asking for a "Cello mix" which I think is a mistake. It's not very important, just a TV show.

I took the 91A w because it looks nice, sounds nice and has an integrated speaker. I thought this would help bet it was very difficult to play with the room feedback.

Playing the theremin on stage is really a performance, that needs special conditions to play in tune.

Par Amour,
For Love :)

I agree, that's a nice album, and you played it nicely too. Congratulations.
