Theremin on old Muse album

I'm been meaning to post this for a few months.

About 00:34 seconds into the song "Exo-Politics" from Muse's "Black Holes and Revelations" album a theremin loosely follows the melody for one verse, and even wanders around the pitch (which I realize now after owning one, is pretty easy to do).

For those that don't know Muse, they are a rock band from Teignmouth, England, who tend to theme a lot of their songs around science fiction.

It's not a true theremin but is certainly intended to sound like one.

From the Muse Wiki: "That songs went through a lot of different variations. I think one of the cool things about that song, one of the things that makes it really interesting, is in some ways it is Matt taking the piss out of himself in some ways, but there's a sort of Theremin sound that plays the melody in the intro of that song. And what that actually is Hugh Manson built a couple of guitars for Matt that a Kaoss pad controller built into the guitar. The Kaoss pad isn't in it, but the controller is. So essentially he's playing Theremin on the guitar."

That don't sound like no theremin to me! The vibrato, to my ears, is obviously electronically generated.

The lead singer on the song (not sure which one of the guys it is) is singing consistently about 20 cents flat (100 cents in a semitone) for the first minute of the song. Not everyone is going to be sensitive to that degree of flatness but for those who are, it's kind of like listening to someone scratch their fingernails on a blackboard.

After the first 60 seconds, when the singer leaves his mid-range and sings high, he's O.K. but by that time I was already squirming.
