Hi everybody – Introducing myself, Malcolm from Scotland in the UK.
Well, my Etherwave Plus arrived from the States yesterday, great service from the Midi Store (http://www.midi-store.com) in Arizona, and a fair saving on UK prices – let’s just hope I don’t have any problems with it.
I’m an electronics engineer and have messed with synths etc on and off for 30 years or so, but the only instrument that I have learned formally was the violin, many years ago. I think I have a fairly good sense of pitch, (shame about the timing) – so I’m looking forward to devoting myself to the theremin. I also have a modest analogue modular setup, consisting mainly of the superb Oakley (http://www.oakleysound.co.uk)modules which is why I went for the Plus model. I’m looking forward to playing with CVs.
As for the music, I’ve enjoyed discovering and listening to Spellbound Radio. I’ve heard a lot of music that I think represents the wrong choice of material for the instrument, and a lot which to my ears is just too off pitch. But some of it I find inspiring, and often beautiful. I’m fascinated by the pureness of this instrument, and it brings to mind a quotation from the composer Arvo Parte - “I have discovered that it is enough when a single note is beautifully played.”
So, the adventure starts here. I look forward to learning from, and perhaps one day contributing to, the forums here.
Best Wishes. Malcolm
