Hay just got an Eherwave standered an I am new to the forum.I want to know if I put a disc shapped like a ufo on top of the antenna will it efect the tuneing I do not want to have to retune it. I allso would want to make a new top for the case just like the origial 1 but with a rectangle hole cut out of it with a piece of glass inset in it so you could see the electronics.Led lights would be put inside and maybe if I find a circuit that made the lights get brighter with volume that would be cool. Will this effect the instruments electronics? Any input would be helpfull THANKS Spooky EEEOOOWWW PS is $270 a good price for a used E wave

$270.00 is good if it works OK.

The antenna topper should not cause too much trouble if it is plastic. I have a Barbie Doll head on mine and it only affects the pitch a little bit, not enough to really matter, maybe a semi tone or so.

The rectangular hole may affect it more but I am not sure which way it would go.

Welcome to Theremin World, Spooky Ether.

Everything affects theremins. Well, almost. They are designed to be sensitive to the objects around them and anything conductive or organic in the control zone will have an effect to some degree or other.

Don't make any irreversible modification to your instrument without testing first.

Works great. The first peddle I got was a Daneletro echo.Hook it up the first time I used the Theremin it souned just like Jimmy Page. ??? Why does metal effect the antenna seems like if the antenna is touching a piece of metal thay would act as one. Thanks your answers did help.

Gordon I just did my fist test.Took the case top off.The theremin pitch does not go silent with it off so if I put a hole in the top the hole will have to be coverd I want to put pleaxy glass over the hole.I have seen a clear e wave on the web and like the look.Might make mine all clear if I find thick enough materiel.

Ah, the pitch rod. Sure looks like an antenna, people keep on calling it an antenna, it creates an EM field like an antenna, it's connected to an RF oscillator, like an antenna. Guess what...

That's right, it's a capacitor plate.

So where's the other plate? Well... that's your hand. But doesn't that mean...

Yes, it does. It means that YOU are part of the circuit. There's a name for that. Something that combines the electronic and the organic. A cybernetic organism. A cyborg. Like (eek!) a dalek.

(My first delay box was a Danelectro PB&J. Lovely little device.)

Putting metal on the antenna...er..I mean pitch rod...will affect it in that you are not making it longer.

This is not a big deal but it will definitely change the parameters of the pitch circuit.

It would be like adding a larger pitch-controling thingie.

I say just try it and see what happens. Just don't Superglue it until you are sure...

Nah, it's cool Spooky. Everyone calls them antennas - even me when I'm not paying attention.

But don't call them antennae, or Charlie D will have to explain that the theremin is not an insect.
