Two-hand pitch control

Hi guys,
I'm an electronics student and I've recently decided I'd like to build a Theremin.
I've come across several schematics, some real cheap and easy to do, others far more complex but there's one thing that's "bothering" me.

I'd like to build a theremin that has a pitch control that allows the user to play it with two hands (like one would play a piano with two hands) on a single antenna.
I want to know if this has been attempted before and what are the conclusions (mainly if it is or not possible).

Thanks!

Don't forget the theremin is monophonic. Two-handed control is necessary for polyphonic instruments but would just complicate things with the theremin. The instrument would not identify two separate hands and would react to their proximity as if they were one rather erratic hand.

Also, since both hands would presumably be occupied with pitch, you would have to control volume with a foot pedal.

Many people over the years have tried to reinvent, or improve upon the theremin but none has succeeded.
