Considering getting a theremin

Hey everyone, I have been playing guitar for about 5 years, and I love it.

But, I am getting curious about trying out other musical endeavors, and the theremin seems like quite an interesting option. Just a few questions:

I'm a lefty. Will that matter when playing a theremin?

What should a beginner buy? A one or two antenna theremin?

Welcome to Theremin World. :-)

You'll probably do better with a left handed theremin. Pitch requires a deal of precision, so is preferably played with the dominant hand.

At present, only Wavefront at theremin.ws offers options for left-handed theremins.

If you can find a left handed Etherwave Pro on E-bay, (not likely), jump on it.

As an alternative, the Etherwave Standards, B3s, and others can simply be turned around for left-handed use.

Or build/assemble a theremin--and you can make it left-handed.

Or play from the other side?

No, it's better to turn the theremin around as Thomas suggested. That way you don't have your back to the audience.

Alternatively you could turn it upside down and swing the pitch antenna round 180 degrees. That way the knobs would be on the right side, albeit upside down, and the shaped portion of the volume loop would be facing you. You would need to relocate the mic stand fitting.

More sensibly, do ask Moog and/or Dan Burns if they can do a left handed model.
