New B3 UK Power Supply Help!

I am a newcomer to the theremin world, and have decided on a Burns B3 as a starter theremin. However, the power supply is american, and I am looking for a UK power supply to replace it with. The input voltage for the theremin can be between 12V and 24V, but I have heard that if you use a power supply with a transformer inside, it will effectively turn the theremin into a radio. Can anyone suggest a good power supply that will work with the B3?

I think the radio interference problem is not universal. For example, I'm from Spain and I have a B3. I use it by plugging its power supply to an USA-to-EU adapter, and the adapter to a transformer. In my particular case, I haven't had any problems with radio interference. Perhaps it depends on the radio frequencies they use in each country or something like that...

I would still rather be safe than sorry if I took it anywhere where there would be interference, even if there is none in my area. Would it work if I cut off the existing power supply and replaced it with this? http://www.maplin.co.uk/high-power-multi-voltage-desktop-power-supply-48517

This one is surely over-dimensioned and risks to deliver an unstable voltage since the current drawn by the B3 is less than 1% of the nominal current of this power supply (4A!).

I'd suggest this one: http://www.powersuppliesonline.co.uk/4-5w-15v-300ma-regulated-linear-plugtop-power-supply-714.html

Thanks for the suggestion. I was also considering the 15V version of this: http://www.rapidonline.com/Electrical-Power/12W-Interchangeable-plugtop-desktop-switch-mode-power-supply-81327/ as it has interchangeable sockets and is roughly the same price as the one you are suggesting. Would it be a good idea to get the 18V version though, to be on the safe side of the power requirements? (12V-24V)

I've got it: http://www.rapidonline.com/Electrical-Power/6W-International-switch-mode-121448 The 18V version of this power supply has a low cost, interchangeable socket heads, and supplies 330mA of power. Good choice?

No, not at all. Switching mode power supplies are a "no-no" for theremins because they risk to create interferences and ghost tones. That's why I suggested one with a linear voltage regulator for you.

Taking a 18V version instead of a 15V version makes no sense since there is an internal 12V voltage regulator in the B3 which needs an "overhead" of somewhat more than 2V to work correctly, so that 15V is the optimal input voltage. Each additional volt at the input will only increase the thermal power dissipation of the internal regulator.

Why do you try to complicate things? Just buy the device that I suggested and your B3 will work fine.

Ah thank you. So the theremin will use 12 volts regardless, and I need a linear power supply because switch mode power supplies cause the interference. I didn't mean to complicate things, I just wanted to make sure I got the right power supply. Thanks again :)
