Replacing both capacitors C6 and C2 with IN4004 diodes and putting a few extra ones in for good measure,I'll show a picture later,..the base range of the EW standard can be extended.

the above is how the diodes are placed in the EW standard board C2 and C6 are replaced with 4004's and D4 has three 4148's in series connected to it and to L12 and there is also a 4004 connected to C6 and the other side of L12.One can do many different combos of diode placements and they result in different tones and the brightness and waveform pots respond differently.But the above arrangement extended the base a little but not as much as the module by Thierry.
