Cloud storage

Ok - First.. This may look like spam - and it might even be a subtle spam I have fallen for.. So caution please, and if moderators want to delete this post then they are free to do so, obviously..

I was looking for free cloud storage to share files across platforms etc, and to use for collaborative projects - and I found this:

With the above link you get the Copy.com 15G, and an additional free 5GB (total 20GB free storage) - oh, and not only do you get an extra 5G, for everyone who signs up through my link, I get another 5GB ;-) (the same will be available to you if you sign up - but they do say its an introductory offer)

I have only played with this today, and it all seems really good - so far.

What I really like is that one can create shared folders and allow access to these to specified other subscribers (im not sure if one can make stuff available to non-subscribers) - any shared files are shared in terms of allocation amongst users of this data - so, for example, if one has 10 people working on a project and sharing 10GB of data, this will only cost each user one GB of their allocation - as I understand it (and theres not exactly a detailed manual, which is my biggest grumble) 10 users working on a project would have (assuming all subscribed through a invitation or link and got the free extra 5GB) a whopping 250 GB (collectively) available free - so even if each only allocated 5GB for a common project, this project gould host 50GB of data.

This is the first time I have used any cloud stuff - so pleaase dont think I know what im talking about - I DONT!!! This may be some scam and I may wish I had never downloaded it at some future time - They are claiming its a limited offer, but I have seen limited offers go on for years -

But just in case it is a limited offer, and just on the chance that its really as good as it seems, I thought id let people here know.

I think that free cloud storage is nothing new for most TW members. There are many free offers like Dropbox, Google iDrive, Microsoft SkyDrive, Apple iCloud, Ubuntu One, which are often already integrated into newer releases of the different operating systems or office application packs.

One is common to all these offers: you will never know who (besides the NSA) has a look onto your data.

Yes, I looked at them all - But they ranged from 2GB to about 7GB before one needed to pay more to get more..

https://copy.com?r=bOd7OI on the other hand gives a standard 15GB free, and this can be increased by 5GB free chunks for everyone who signs up through a introduction link, and then by an extra 5GB for everyone who you sign up..

So, starting an online development - Say 5 participants - one has an initial 120 to 125GB available between all members, and each new member add 25GB to this pool (if they subscribe through invitation)

With even the best other free cloud I have seen, 5 participants would have a total of no more than 50GB spread across their individual accounts - this one seems to allow a total of up to say 120GB available to all users from one shared 'directory'.

I am thinking more in terms of collaborative projects than a "dropbox" - but hey, no reason not to idrive or skydrive as well ;-)

Oh - NSA etc.. LOL ;-) - Lets be honest, they can even get at ones USB dongle if they want to.. And IMO, unless one has super-fast internet access, these are far better for storing data one wants to move about.. I see cloud soley as a way to share files one really isnt bothered if anyone else  sees.

And yeah - I know I am a dinosour treading cautiously into this 'absurd' online digital storage world.. I really cannot see this replacing personal hard drives, I have about 3TB in RAID and the idea of accessing this through my ISP is laughable - I have enough problem finding the files I want with the drives wired to my PCs  ;-)
