Hi, so I'm constructing a theremin based on the schematics from Strange Apparatus' "How to Build a Theremin" (http://www.strangeapparatus.com/Theremin.html), and I was just wondering if anyone has built it before and if it sounds good. I figured this would be better for the general forum rather than construction, as I just want some input on the sound. Thanks laughing

If you'd used the search function of these forums, you'd found several posts in which it is explained why this circuit is simply crap. The "designer" of it has done stupid copy/paste of theremin circuit parts, glueing these together without understanding what he/she did. The 4 10mH coils in the pitch antenna circuit are suited for oscillators running around 265kHz, but here, they are combined with a 172kHz oscillator which will reduce the sensitivity of the pitch field and make it highly unlinear. There are too much variables in the volume section, first the trimmable volume oscillator and then another trimming possible in the discriminator stage. Getting that tuned in a stable manner does not only require much of RF experience, but also much luck.

If it's the first theremin you build, try better simpler and approved circuits. Either you search for Thierrymin here in the forums or you order a nude but pre-calibrated Etherwave circuit board for only 96.50$ and build your individual theremin around.

NEVER build a theremin circuit which has not already been built (and professionally been played) with success!

Power generators operating frequency of this scheme is acceptable (А что бы им не работать с хорошими, правильными катушками? :-)) And here is the volume flow is not likely to work. Or requires very precise performance.

I suppose that the author had copied his scheme 142nd theremin described by Arthur Harrison. And that version has a lot of disadvantages. That Arthur Harrison corrected in his theremin 144.

So, the generator of the work, and the volume control buggy.

(But perhaps there is an error in some denominations capacitors)

I suppose that the author of this model works, but is very primitive.

"Etherwave circuit board for only 96.50$ and build your individual theremin around." Unfortunately circuit out of stock.

But it's recommended by this site, the wine box theremin is the same, isn't it?

Anyway, is there a way to fix it somehow? I mean, google hates me, I found this info today and I already got the parts for it, so I would like to know that it's possible to play it somehow.

Any way to fix?

(THY in advance)
