Hello,
I am looking for Hammond-manufactured RF chokes of the following type and quantity for my etherwave:
1535B 2.5mH (2)
1535D 5.0mH (1)
1535G 10.0mH (3)
Zip 94609
Thank you!
hi, try here: http://www.youdoitelectronics.com . all of them in stock. happy building and let us know how it turned out.
Make sure you order extra, the Bourns ones I ordered like those rock-tumbled their way to my house all jumbled together in one plastic bag, and as a result a couple were damaged beyond repair (the wire is very fine and quite vulnerable). I don't know why they don't put heat-shrink or similar on the outside, one slip of a screwdriver and it's a goner.
oh wow: there was somebody quick on buying them. no, wasn't me. from downunder: https://hamradiohouse.com.au/products/rf-choke
go for the millers instead bourns?
The Ham Radio House only has one 10mH choke in stock. I know this because it was the first place I tried. Then I tried A1 Parts, who seemed to have all of them (you could fill your cart) though they eventually refunded my purchase as they had none of them. I do appreciate your help though.
It is no matter though, I found somebody off the beaten path who has them in stock. I’ll post here after I order.
This doesn’t bode well for DIY etherwave constructors. The $98 PCB only alternative looks to have dried up as well. It looks like Moog and their dealers are going to be the only route for Etherwaves very soon.
How does one know if Moog is using Miller/Bourns coils or Hammond coils in their Etherwaves? The look and dimensions on both datasheets are identical specs.
yeah, sadly some sources are dried out. and moog made some business changes but one could still order the pcb only direct from moog. or the local importeur-company. but it's getting harder to simply radio-shack a etherwave clone together.
there was some technical engineer discussion about the diff of miller/hammond here on thereminworld. looks like there is a slight differnce of quality but also a bit like coke/pepsi, when in use, imo.
I ordered the Etherwave Pro kit last month and was looking to upgrade some of it’s components which I should detail in a new thread.
I was hunting for the Hammonds because of claims Thierry made in the past regarding their improved pitch separation vs the Miller/Bourns.
when I registered my etherwave I gave some feedback to Moog about how much I would have appreciated the opportunity to populate the circuit board myself. But I can also see it from their perspective.
i just put the last coat of polyurethane on the enclosure yesterday. I’m very happy with how it turned out. It needs a couple weeks to fully cure before I can polish it.
i already have the ESPE01 module which I will install during assembly, after all the casework is completed.
lol. i thought you're one of those who try to build it from scratch. congruential experience here about the kit, but 2k ship varnish and a horsehair polish here.
i'm still not shure about replacing the coils... i went through that and after the retuning i did not notice a big substantial change on the pitch or volume side regarding range etc. but i was a diligent tinkerer not a very serious scientist. maybe you'll experience some more differences? no doubt, best improvement is the espe board. and a goodgood tuning. this summer thierry tweaked the pitch side somewhat to a higher frequency and the result is just wow.
