Playing through home audio system

Hello:

I am still shopping around for keyboard/guitar amp for my new theremin, Etherwave Plus. But I have a home audio system that I am interested to know if I can play through that, using the Line Out, and if there is any specific things to look out for/avoid?

My system is pretty standard setup for home audio as far as specs, with a preamp into a 100WPC solid state amp (McCormack DNA 0.5 Deluxe), then out through two small-ish speakers (B&W CDM1). I would plug the theremin Line Out into the Line In at the preamp.

I am doing this only for practice, at home in the living room, not for performance or in a large space.

I'm not sure if the line-out from the EW would be too large for the line-in of your preamp. If it is, you could run the risk of frying your line-in, so better careful than not.

There are small in-line connectors and units available for reducing the signal.

Also make sure that the audio system is earthed because usually, the EW takes it's grounding form the amp via the EW-amp connection.

If there is no good ground connection then your EW will behave unpredictably both in sound quality and tuning.
