I have had this issue since I bought my theremin new. The power cord just doesn't seem to fit into the cabinet snugly. When it's plugged in, it easily wiggles around and a few time has fallen out on it's own. The prongs all seem to be in place and straight so I'm not sure what the issue is. I was having an issue recording my theremin into my DAW where I had a consistent underlying buzzing, and I realized that if I play around with the power cord, I can get it to stop. Has anyone else had this issue?
Loose Power Cord?
Circling back to this post to see if anyone has any insights. I got a new power cord, and this one fits just as loosely as the last. I've concluded that the buzz is coming from the power cord because if I move the cable around, it affects the buzz. However, as the same thing is happening with my new cable, this must mean my theremin is defective? I suppose I should reach out to Moog about this. Any advice in the meantime is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
If it's under warranty you probably should contact Moog unless you are up to replacing the connector yourself. If this is an Etherwave it's pretty easy, but I don't see where you've indicated which theremin you have.
Yes it's an etherwave, unfortunately I don't think it's under warranty anymore. Do you mean replacing the connector on the theremin? I will look into it. Thanks.
I'm assuming that if you replaced the power adapter already and it's still falling out then you may have a problem with the connector on the back of the theremin. That connector is mounted directly on the printed circuit board inside the enclosure and can be replaced if you have some soldering skills.
It seems odd that a new connector would be loose though (when it was new). Take a really close look to make sure that the plug from the power adapter is seating fully in the female connector. If there is an obstruction preventing the plug from inserting fully that might explain why it falls out easily. Study it to see if it's lack of friction or an insertion problem before you do anything.
