Curious! Today a potential customer told me about the Etherwave being non available (at least in Germany) and so i have had a look. Crazy, the stores even don't list it anymore – they would if it was temporarily out of production caused by the pandemic i guess.

Hi Dominik,

I checked the usually reliable sources like Sweetwater sound and BH Photo and you're right - they're either not available or you get auto-directed to the Theremini or Claravox.  Ebay and an Amazon seller still have them, but if the music stores are out that's probably a bad sign.  I saw the ash version of the EW Standard listed as "no longer available", and that seemed to be the most common version.

I wonder what's going on over there...

Hi Roger.

.. while Moogmusic refers e.g. to Sweetwater :/
Moogmusic showcases an Etherwave with an 'Appalachian hardwood' housing. Never heard about that, but maybe this implies ongoing production. I am not the biggest friend of the Etherwave, but for sure it would be a missing link.

What has been obvious is confirmed. I got a reply from Moog: the Etherwave Standard and the Plus are out of production! This is sad news for ambitious newbies in the need of the real thing.

It probably means a stripped-down version of the CVox is in the works...once the "limited" run fiasco is over.

Thankfully, there are scads of Etherwaves gracing livingrooms as static displays...their value will go up and they will be for sale Albeit for a more painful asking price.

Maybe Behringer will clone it?

We need an alternative to Moog, anyway...IMO

Peter Theremin offers great reasonable priced e/w standard alternative for his students. As I understood, this is an analog instrument, not exact e/w clone, but similar circuitry. This is an entry-level instrument.

Dominik's Subscope is highest-quality instrument for advanced level.

Moog Theremini is a good toy for mass-market.

Yes, that is right! Subscope has skills that represent real progress after 100 years theremin.

In several aspects very disapointed by which choices Moog Music appears to be making nowadays, I managed to cancel my order for a Claravox. I'm convinced about the quality and sound of the Subscope theremins and I do also prefer a purely analog instrument, no risk there of software becoming outdated/incompatible and buggy firmware that doesn't get any updates, as seen from the Moog Theremini.
