I suppose there are plenty of bidding companies for that one to participate; it's simply not that fortunate to not find strong e-bay bids.  Usually, most components are rather tough to locate; so, at the end of the day, is it really an original instrument or a collection of old pieces?

August 12, 2024 and it is still for sale. That's of money and though I never heard or played one but I'll bet there are better options unless one just wants a handsome museum piece in their home.

What specific alternatives should I consider that offer better value for the money?

If you want an old maybe working not really well developped briar to fit in your 2,000,000 $ home i would buy it.
If i look at the electronic components nowing what is used in other good working concepts i would only take it for free if i want to play!
So if you look for a theremin in working technique that is well developped and playable look for an Etherwave, Burns or an L3 frum UK, yes there are others i know ...
