ContraDude

I’m a classically trained bassoonist and contrabassoonist. While originally from California, I have lived in New Jersey since 2015. I played bassoon and contrabassoon with the Mexico City Philharmonic many years ago. I currently play bassoon and contra with quite a few chamber music groups, orchestras, and opera companies in the NYC Metro area including the New York Kammermusiker (bassoon & contra), the New York Repertory Orchestra (bassoon), the United Nations Symphony (principal bassoon), Amore Opera Company (bassoon), Gateway Classical Music Society (bassoon), Summit Symphony (NJ; principal bassoon), Trilogy Opera Company (principal bassoon), Central Jersey Symphony (contrabassoon), and many others. I’ve always loved strange and weird instruments and the COVID-19 Pandemic has given me the opportunity to take up the theremin (life takes me strange places)! Without question, the theremin is one of the strangest instruments I’ve tried and I’m very surprised at how beautiful it can be when played well (kinda, sorta, maybe a cross between voice and string instruments). I’m interested in exploring primarily classical repertoire but am not opposed to other things. As a rank beginner, I’ve got a long road ahead of me! :)
