Gordon, you also might be able to download some theremin vids from youtube.com .

Obviously you would want to take care with copyright regulations.

They tend to be short so you would probably have to have a series of them repeating.

That might be way too much effort for little return, though.

Thank you for that suggestion - it has reminded me that we have 42Hz amongst our numbers (the guy that uploaded a bunch of Brit theremin stuff - he's a serious videographer - got copyright permission on all the youtube uploads) and he also has a bunch of other theremin stuff that won't be making it to YouTube. Perhaps I could get him on the case.

The timetable set out is fantastic - very well thought out. Given my current lack of practise, I'll have to start again given my recent lapse, in prep for the open mic night! (it's just amazing what you can lose in just a month!).

I very much like the video ideas for the soirée - will I need to bring my tux? (IF yes, do you want the normal one, or the one with the 'pockets'? :-P ).

Much like JD, coming back to all of this fantastic news has been great!

Have fun,

MC

"pockets" :-)

Great news. Spoke to Pamelia Kurstin last night. We can add her to the list of likely performers!

Also there is a notable Japanese thereminist (who's name I can't recall - he's in the noise genre) going to be in the UK around Easter. Jez Riley has the details and will be passing them on to me.

Excellent news! I'm sure Pamelia on her own would be reason enough for many people to attend even without all the other activities.

I wonder if she'd include a block of individual lessons before or after the event - I still can't believe that I didn't think to contact her about that when she was here.

Good work!

Great news, Gordon! This really is becoming something to attend - I already know of a few people who are seriously considering coming - they're not thereminists, but are music/synth enthusiasts and theremin fans - Pamelia would be the 'icing on the cake' ;-) Perhaps a masterclass from the good lady? That may be asking too much though...

EDIT: You're right, this is definitely news I wanted to hear ;-)

Have fun,

MC

JD, MC,

I have every intention of being utterly shameless in inviting people to do stuff for the event.

"If you don't ask, you don't get."

Now I'm off to practice my impresario's winning smile.

Also practise the 'puppy dog, I-have-no-daddy' eyes for when they say 'No!', and the infamous 'Thousand yard stare' for when they try to cancel ;-)

Post interest/audition tapes here :D

Have fun,

MC

With regards to private sessions, which was mentioned elsewhere, I note that Miss Hypnotique offers private tutoring, as does Pamelia Kurstin. (Pamelia also does haircuts - the implication from her website is "at the same time!")

I think the right approach will be to try to make rooms available if they want to offer tutoring as a way of bolstering their finances, and to let attendees know that this is an option, but to make it clear that this would be an extracurricular arrangement purely between them and their tutor, and would doubtless mean missing one of the organised activities, given the planned schedule.

In my experience of such things as courses/summer schools etc., that's how it is usually done. Usually there is a sign up sheet or some sort, listing the times that the tutors are willing to teach, and people sign up on a first come, first served basis, or something of that ilk.

How is the schedule looking? If there are any gaps at all, I'd recommend a masterclass of some sort - it's a way of many people benefiting from the tutor's skill and pedagogy with the performer(s) in the masterclass. It need only be an hour long, with two performers (half and hour each) and the tutor - the amount you can learn is frankly increadible. Just a thought...

Have fun,

MC

PS - will Pamelia be teaching hair-dressing as well?
