Welcome, Jamie!

Love the username, I'm a long-time Strong Bad fan =)

A music student! How awesome! Is there anything in particular you're interested in going into? Orchestra, recording, etc?

Anyhow, welcome to the forums - I've only been here a week myself and have already learned a lot - more about how nuts thereminists are than anything else ;)

Good luck, have fun, and let us all know how things go!

I second the fact that we are all just a little touched in the head, but we don't bite. Much.

Welcome newcomers!

Jaimie-If your looking at purchasing the Kees theremin (Australian) I personally own and can vouch for it. It's a very beautiful looking and sounding instrument and a lot cheaper than a Moog.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

At school, I'm actually doing a double program in Music and Pure & Applied Science. They're both 2-year programs and I do them in 3 years. Musically, I'm really interested in composition, which is one reason that the theremin is so interesting to me. I've written some stuff for flute that I think would work really well on the theremin, though reportedly I'd have to take out the arpeggios and strange runs built on tritones...

As far as musical taste goes, I'm a big fan of indie music. Montreal has an amazing indie scene (Arcade Fire, The Dears, Islands, The Unicorns (they're not dead), Malajube and Patrick Watson all call it home) but I'm willing to go mainstream too if the quality is there. I also like some older stuff like Eno (he's a god) and Sting and Dylan and The Doors. My friends and I have plans to start a band. My stage name is Downside Up, but latest reports say that this is already taken so I've been adopting Lionel Powers which is a name I got from the Wikipedia article on Parallel Fifths.

Although I've already posted a time or two, I'm now ready to introduce myself properly. I recently purchased a Kees Enkelaar theremin, and little Taz and I have been busy getting acquainted. I bought a mike stand from the local guitar shop (Theremins = instant respect!); my significant other (and resident electronics geek) rigged me a practice amp; and our beloved GordonC has emailed me tuning tips, assorted pearls of wisdom and general moral support.

Many thanks to all who have posted such wonderful, helpful info here on Theremin World. I look forward to adding my 2 cents as soon as I have anything worth 2 cents to add.

My pearls are free.

Which makes them either worthless or priceless.

Hi my name is Jason And Im signing on from Sydney Australia. I've signed up here to learn and add whatever i can to the community of theremin enthusiasts.

My main interest and influences in music are in the genre of electronica known as Drum and Bass. But I also have a love of any form of music that is at it's heart fusion music. Music that takes the fusing of rhythms and styles into new genres as its heart. I feel that instruments like the theremin have been used (in mainstream consciousness at least) almost as a special sauce flavouring for music so there is a lot of scope for fusion for an instrument that is so familiar and iconic, yet in terms of fusion largely unexplored.

To start with I'll be hanging out in the Construction area to help get my "Wobulator to Theremin" conversion going. Hopefully once I have a working theremin i can get down to learning how to play it.

Hi LoS and welcome.
If you're into fusion I can heartily recommend Barbara Bucholz CD theremin:russia with love. She covers a lot of styles in it - sound collage, classical, jazz and even a techno influenced track - all top quality.
