hrm. i wonder what would be more useful for the beginner (such as myself!) - starting with reference points on the casing and then making sure to stand in such a manner that the null point is always "in the same place" (e.g., some amount behind the player)?
or tuning by holding the 1st position to some note (say, an octave above middle c..?) and tuning so that the 1st and 4th positions are always the same distance apart (e.g., 4th hand position always takes you to f...)?
