I must admit that I did not study the included DVD much before using the theremin. Last night I studied the DVD, and noticed that the position of my hand were wrong.

I changed my position, and this improved my ability to hold notes consistently and hit them more precisely. Still a long way to go, but one major step forward.

One of the mistakes that newcomers to the theremin make is to assume that they do not need to follow any particular technique or method of playing the instrument, and that they will be able to figure it all out quite nicely by ear.

No one would do this with a cello or violin, but people do it with the theremin all the time. The method that you see demonstrated on the DVD that came with your Etherwave (I presume it is Lydia Kavina's MASTERING THE THEREMIN) is not the only method, and you may find that there are other methods that suit you better.

Unfortunately, people who do not follow any method at all are often disappointed with the results of their efforts and eventually abandon the instrument.

Fred & Jeff, no problems with the hi-jacking. This is the Internet - worse things happen ;-)

Yes, the DVD is "Mastering the Theremin". Today I watched a few of Thomas Grillos instruction videos at Youtube, and found a lot of important information. This instrument really is special to handle, and requires a lot of attention to detail.

I am seriously thinking about taking the Vespa to Lippstadt in November.
