I did not know you could remove the compression rings. How was this done? This would make slipping on a regular tube or cable sleeve much easier.

You can't if the ring was actually compressed. Well, I guess you could, but you would have to cut the ferrule (the compression ring), and get a new one from a hardware store.

i just had an idea.
Leave the metal ferrule on the end of the hoop that matches up with the antenna wire. And use a plastic ferrule on the other end. They will come off much easier if you want to change the color of tubing.

You should be able to find plastic ferrules in the plumbing department, near where the sink faucet stuff is.

You are right, I had the compression rings compressed but not uber-compressed.

There are two standard sizes of heatshrink that will fit the volume antenna, one that's just barely large enough and a beyotch to get on there, and a size larger that will go on with only some difficulty, but will have the odd wrinkle in it when shrunk.

Since "Perfect is the enemy of good enough", that's ok with me.

I finally got around to posting a short video of my antenna mod which deomonstrates some of the cool things you can do with a bit of cable sleeve which I put on both pitch, and volume antennae.

Here's the link:

Sorry, no closeups, but you'll get the idea, the antennae are black in this video.

Hmmm,,, a bumper pad? That sounds interesting. Ever notice Clara Rockmore's volume antenna? It seemed to have something like tape wrapped around the part where we normally rest our hand. any idea what that was?

It's tape wrapped around the part where she normally rests her hand.
