As far as all the questions about me asking if other parts would be compatible with the EM Theremin, I think that I went into this project thinking that I had to get the exact parts mentioned in the plans. However, I've come to learn that a substitute is a substitute, and a theremin isn't really anything too extraordinary and unusually special when it comes down to finding substitute parts. I think that the inductors are important, but as far as these DC regulators go, shouldn't 12VDC at 100mA with 5% tolerance just be 12VDC at 100mA with 5% tolerance?!? The data sheet for the part listed in the schematic and the part I found at Mouser is actually the same data sheet for the two different parts, therefore, I'd like to hope that either one will work. Further, why the heck would a company make two of the exact same thing (RoHS reasons?), because that's a major factor in my uncertainty.
So...I think I'll try to get the alternate part at Mouser, mainly because it has the same characteristics (as far as I can see) and it has a better configuration of the IC and leads.
Also, when it comes to building the cabinet, the plans say not to use any large cabinet parts. However, would two small hinges so that I could open and close the top cover be ok to use? Otherwise, I'm not sure if I'd be able to access the board as easily. Seeing that the front panel is metal, I don't think it could really hurt to add some small hinges...?
