ROSS HERE: Building a Keppinger Theremin: I was told the C11 cap is a compression type 20-150pF
of close to it.
Also told to get better base notes: connect .1 cap 100v. between pitch antenna and OSC.?
" The capacitor between the oscillator and antenna coil is 0.1 mfd 100vdc. Anything but Z5U ceramic; a polyesterene or polypropolene is best.
C11 - The capacitor is a compression type tuning capacitor. I think the ones were around 20pf - 150pf, but anything close should be fine."

All three 6J5 tubes are oscillators; one for the volume oscillator circuit, and the two for the pitch circuit which 'beat against each other', and the difference in frequencies being the pitch
you hear.
The pitch antenna coil connects to the pitch antenna at the top, and one end of the .1 mfd capacitor. The other end of the .1 mfd capacitor
connects to the top (100 turns) end of the pitch oscillator coil on the outside of the chassis (as opposed to the pitch oscillator coil in
the middle).

Ross - Your information does not agree with the information we have. Where did you get it?

There are schematics and a component list on the TW schematics page. (Note: Large pitch and volume coils should be listed as 3.10" diameter.)

oh well, I am new to beginning to build one myself.. just posting Mark's comments to me as I get them. I may be able to restore Predicta Chassis' to work, but I can't even WIND up a METAL DUCK let alone a COIL! If I build it and all it does is SCARE dogs away, I'll be doing real good! LOL

Big thanks to Jeff S for an updated components list for the Keppinger theremin!! I've uploaded his revised list to the schematics page.

Besides the exclusion of R31 &32 are there any other changes to the revised parts list? i was just looking it over and that was all I noticed.

Hi everyone, I was planning on building one of the excellent tube theremins designed by Mark Keppinger.  After studing the schematics and internet for a bit, I cannot find the value off C11, the panel mount trim cap, and the inductance vaules of the oscillator coils. The parts list only lists what gauge wire over what size form how many times. It would seem helpful to know the value when winding those monsters.    anyway, I know that there are only like five people around who have the knowledge that i seek...I hope they are listening. thanks in advance.

I have a keppinger chassis. can I get your copys of your Keppinger schematcis?
I posted this in another secction.
have some questions and a few requests.
I have what I remember is a Mark Keppinger Tube theremin (chassis') that uses the
6sn7s, 6J5, 6H6, 5Y3, 0D3, and 6V6 tubes.
The tone sound is as close to Clara as I will get at the moment- it's acceptable.
[Am also playing with building an RCA that I use to play that the Bellingham Sparks Radio Museum under John Winters.]
BUT my "Keppinger?" chassis linearity is horrible. Low octaves are nice but can get too extended. The high pitch octaves are impossible to play the closer you get to the pitch antenna.
Does anyone have the SCHEMATICS to this chassis?
Plus,
Does anyone know tube circuitry enough to supply a additional circuit or repair to extend the octaves and space the linearity out more evenly?
I like to play Classical pieces and am struggling to play this thing.
I would appreciate any help you all can give, short of a free shovel and grave plot. :o(
We know enough here to modify the chassis but are not circuit designers.
Any "DRAWN schematics" can be interpreted- I DO NOT know how to read "verbal" vacuum tube circuit technical language.
I can easily READ any visual schematics.
Please if anyone can help send some PDF schematics?

I looked at my keppinger chassis for C11 and it has this
Variable cap K35J262.1
