Just a little update and closure.

I got hold of a replacement LM78L12 12V 100mA and swapped out the Zetex ZSR 1200 from the board. It cost me $0.20. No more hiccups!

Thanks to Thierry and Don for the pointers which led to a successful diagnosis and fix. No thanks to Moog who would have wanted $90 to ship a RMA.

So, after 2 weeks of peace and quiet, time to wake up the neighbours with some caterwauling.

It was a pleasure to be a little bit helpful.

Finally I couldn't do many other things since there are only 12°F (-11°C) outside. I really think that those people who tell us stories about CO2 and climatic effects are liars. The last three winters have been each one longer and colder than its predecessor, proven by my fuel invoice.

I really hope that they are indeed wrong, although the recent colder winters may be sure signs of warming.

Contradictory? Substitute "melted glaciers" for "lake" in this article:-

Also glad to be of help with your troubleshooting!

That is very ironic that you can't get parts in Taiwan ... where a lot of our parts come from!
