Super, thanks for the tip. I'd never considered the wet/dry combo recording option. Do you have suggestions for good Mac & PC-compatible sound cards for home recording?

Rather than sticking with the fancy commercial solutions (like the Soundblaster Audigy etc.) I'd suggest to check out some of the semi-pro sound cards. For example M-Audio (www.m-audio.com) offers some affordable and high quality multi-platform interfaces in the Audiophile and Delta series, which are all very popular amongst the home studio owners (and of course miles ahead in terms of performance and audio quality than the typical Soundblaster and the likes). E-MU (www.e-mu.com) has recently launched some high performing value-for-money products as well but those are PC-only. Still, further research on the subject may prove useful in finding what suits your needs best...
