Theremin videos on Veoh

I found some theremin related stuff on Veoh which was new to me...

This is very good. It's an old fashioned slide show and tape recording. Covers mechanical/electrical music from Pythagoras to Musique Concrete in fifteen minutes. Leon and the theremin gets a fair treatment.

You know when you're in a pub and a so called mate exclaims "Yeuch, urrgh, eurgh, 'ere, taste this ... it's horrible."

Well, you're going to download this one, it's inevitable, and you're going to watch it from start to end, incredulously, and then you're going to watch it again and wonder what non-thereminists are going to think of theremins after seeing it and then you are going to want to put your digital camera on a tripod in front of your instrument and post something - anything - that would create a more favourable impression.

Hey, that's pretty cool! I guess I'll have to start watermarking the videos I post here, eh? :)

I've been looking for a place to store and serve all the videos I took at Ethermusic 2005. This looks like a great option. I've also seen vidilife.com, but that seems to be more oriented towards teenagers who like to wrestle in their backyards.

So, does Veoh actually store & serve your videos, or do they just direct people to videos stored on your own server? I'm hoping it's the former.

I have about 6 hours' worth of video from Ethermusic 2005 I'd like to eventually post. Everything from a detailed look at the TVox Tour to a demo of a polyphonic busking theremin, performances, classes, etc. If Veoh is what I think, then our big bandwidth problem might just be solved!

It's a P2P deal. You upload the vid to their servers from which it remains available, but it is also available from the cache of any machine online that has it downloaded and is running their application so their servers don't get worked hard.

Or, if you're already hosting a video on an rss feed then you can just provide a pointer to it and your server gets to be the seed. Again the P2P keeps demand on your server low.

No theremins :-( but this hour long BBC documentary (BBC4 2003) picks up exactly where the slide show I suggested earlier left off, and follows a very significant thread in the history of electronic music from Musique Concrete to the democratisation of electronic music via the home PC - for Brits it is [i]The Thread[/i] - if the question is "The Man From Uranus?" the answer is "The BBC Radiophonic Workshop!"
