Thanks for the update John! The tone seems a bit more smooth and less "throaty" to me now from what I recall of the original tone.  Do you happen to have a direct recording of the original sound too?

Thanks for listening to it, Jason.  I believe the sound clip I put in the original version of the article was also direct into the recorder.  I put a copy of it here:

Remember, the first lead instrument is a saw, and the theremin only comes in afterward.  Unfortunately, it's very different music from Ave Maria, so it's hard to compare the two.

My intention was to make the sound a little bit buzzier, and it definitely is that.  I was also trying to approximate the waveform of the Clara Rockmore theremin clone that was linked from the thread that oldtemecula referenced at the beginning of this thread.  I'm going to try to get Ross Marshall back over here soon to try it out, since he's the person who suggested it needed to sound a little bit buzzier.  I'm liking it, so far, though.
