An Illusion is Arduino Kids Wanting to Build a Theremin Tighter and Cheaper

If a developer can not post something at TW that demonstrates anything that “works” then why post anything at all. In my demonstration below the volume control can have a tremendous dynamic range, much more complicated than the pitch side. What I find disturbing are kids that come from the Arduino world thinking they are going to save the theremin by making it simpler and cheaper. If I demonstrate something for $35 that will give better results than anything Clara Rockmore ever played, then the Arduino kids want to build it tighter and cheaper which destroys what is possible. Always get a sound sample of any theremin design you want build to separate the nonsense from ego driven technical gibberish. The theremin is more organic than a cheap whistle or gazoo sound.

Too many washed up engineers are making the theremin concept much more complicated than it actually is. Let us get back to what was simply beautiful.

Well, they are better than the Maestro Theremin . . .  which kept me away from theremins for about a decade.

Rupert, the Maestro, it sounded familiar but had to look it up as I am getting old. We are like part of the 20 year theremin club and I am starting to think theremin at some point possessed me. The main thrust of my journey was always about what creates the Classic Theremin Sound, I did not care if it was touched when played. My work is original and I was not trying to imitate anyone.

I thought more people would have this interest in my stuff but most today only want it cheap and in the end that is what they get.

My first piece of good theremin advice came from Art Harrison saying it is all about wave shape and over the years this was also revealed this to me. The sound that comes from mixing digital wave shapes has been disappointing, but God bless them for trying. I think this is why they rarely post any sound samples after all their effort; the entertainment from their piano sounding samples can be hilarious to us analog type.

I like to bring to the top of the TW list what is possible once in while for those that might remember the original Classic Sound.

Don't think lady dog will approve of this message, she plays a cheap Arduino theremin. That whistle sound reawakens PTSD from the instrument sounds in my last hospital stay. I guess flat lining would be Zero beat.
