I could ask them for a repair under warranty, or even for a refund, saying that the instrument is not functional anymore because of the discontinued software!

Just did it. Fingers crossed...

I see this as being very closely related to the ominous trend where companies are cutting off access to digital products that consumers have paid for.

Reminded me of this video, maybe someone affected by the Moog Claravox software issue could also report that in the comments, or make their own video about it?
I'm still glad that 3 1/2 years ago, when I saw the first reviews of the production model and I already started to foresee problems like this, based on the frustrating experiences I had around the Theremini's PSU causing irritating noise/warble and could cancel my CVox order with Thomann. And that was even before news about InMusic acquiring Moog Music surfaced.

I don't blame you one bit. If I still had mine it's somewhere between likely and certain that I'd be looking to do the same.

As you suggested I just added to the comments for the video.  It seems somewhat appropriate for the subject matter, even though the Claravox cost is probably pretty small compared to what some other obsolete high-end gear cost originally.

New request, new (same) answer, from a new contact (Rosen) with a different email address: customerexperienceteam@inmusicbrand.com.

Hi Andre,
Thanks for reaching out to us. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Due to complications with Windows, the Windows version of the Editor software for the Claravox Centennial is currently unavailable for download.

While I understand this can be disappointing news, please rest assured that work towards getting the Windows download of the software back up and running as soon as possible is underway.

Unfortunately, there is no official time/date I can provide as to when the new download will be available, however once it is this will be instantly reflected on the official product page here - Claravox Centennial | Moog

Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused due to this and thank you for your patience as we work towards recovering the download for the Windows version of the Editor.
I hope this information was useful. If you require further assistance, please let me know and I will be happy to help.

Moving forward, I will now close this ticket. If you have any questions, or concerns or need any additional help, please do not hesitate to contact me. The ticket will re-open, and we can pick up where we left off.

Best Regards,
Rosen

Taking this at face value (and Moog/inMusic wouldn’t fib, would they?), it’s got to be some licensing issue, probably a 3rd party driver or library that they don’t want to pay for.

Some good news, I think.  If you currently have an installation of the now-unavailable Windows Claravox app on some computer somewhere (or have access to one that does), you can transfer it directly to another computer for migration or backup without a need for the original installation file. Transferring installed programs manually to another computer is not trivial nor even possible as far as I know.  The procedure below makes use of a third-party migration program that has a free version offering a limited number of transfers. This is promising in case the new Moog owners never make good on making the Claravox Windows app available for download after unceremoniously pulling it down.

This came about thanks to this tip posted by André earlier in this thread:

http://www.thereminworld.com/forums/T/34027?post=224606#224606

I went through the installation of the free version of EaseUS PC Transfer tool (https://www.easeus.com/free-pc-transfer-software/) on both my source computer that already has the Windows Claravox app installed and the target computer that needs it.  I went through the rather simple transfer process and I can say that the app has been successfully transferred and is communicating with the Claravox.

This was a PC to PC transfer over a local network, but the application also offers transfer between two computers directly via ethernet cable and also transfer via disk.  I haven't looked into these any further but it would sound like this could make the app available for donating to any Windows user that doesn't already have the app available on some other PC to do their own local transfer.  This would no doubt require that the recipient install the free version of The EaseUS tool on the destination computer to be able to complete the transfer.

A general procedure for the migration is located here:

https://www.easeus.com/support/todo-pctrans/index.html#part5_3

although their website seems to have a number of pages that are not up to date.  They have also apparently changed the available free trial transfers from 2 to 5.  A YouTube video from not too long ago stated that you must have the paid version of the program to do a program transfer, but this is currently not the case.

The program is very self-explanatory and walks you through installation of the migration software on both source (old) and destination (new) computers.  When they are both connected the target computer scans the programs installed on the source computer (takes a while) and puts up a list where you can select the Claravox program and proceed with the migration.  Transfer begins and although I wasn't present through the entire transfer it did take some time and I noticed .NET 3.5, Claravox files, and some Visual C++ Redistributable stuff go flashing by.  After the transfer is complete you are instructed to restart your computer.

When I first tried to open the Claravox app a window with the app logo would open and then close within a second.  I wasn't optimistic, and to be honest I didn't expect this to work.  However I right clicked on the Claravox app in the Start menu, chose More>App Settings and when the page opened I hit the RESET button.  After this the app opened normally and seems to communicate fully with my Claravox.

Prior to hearing of this transfer software from André finding answers had been pretty fruitless.  When searching for "transfer an installed program to a different computer when original installation files are unavailable"  this would lead to people looking to do the same thing, but without any successful resolutions.  Inevitably these would often end in either "you can't do it", "or you can try these steps" (which never worked for me).  But more often than not the knee jerk response would be to use any cloning or backup/restore app, which meant that they didn't understand the question.

So thanks to André there is potentially a means of backing up your own installations and possibly sharing with others that might acquire a used Claravox without access to the essential editor.  Would this be legal?  I don't know, but is withdrawing an essential piece of software that was presumably part of the theremin purchase in itself legal?
