That's it!  My new cunning plan is to make ~50 Theremins, flatly refuse to make more, sell all but ~5 and sit on them for ~20 years.  Then cash in on eBay.  ;-)

The width dimension is 500mm, quite a bit wider than I was thinking.  What are people's thoughts on the ideal width of a Theremin?

The distance from the pitch to volume antenna is important, not a width of house. So the ideal "width" depends on anatomical features of peoples where you will conduct business.

My Subscope Voicematic is exactly 500mm wide plus another 235mm for the volume antenna and it is perfect for me but I would not want it any wider.  I like the modified EWS you sold me so much that I was wondering if I can put in my order in for one of those fifty now?  ;^)

I was surprised at what the Tvox sold for also.  That kind of money means you have to be an independently wealthy thereminist....LOL!

If the EWS body is 18" that's 457.2mm, plus maybe 25mm for the plumbing puts it near 1/2 a meter.

Their dimensioning seems either faulty or inconsistent.  bisem, could you measure the width of the EWS wooden case?

I've got an enclosure lined up but it's only 350mm wide (350x115x50).  Plus another 25mm or so for pitch antenna right angle adapter = 375mm.  Too narrow?  The next one up is 430x150x60 which seems a bit largish?

I suppose a lot of it boils down to how you play the pitch side, your stance, etc.  1/2 meter strikes me as a bit wide, but it would help separate volume & pitch.  The less expensive designs out there seem to be too narrow.

Everything depends on the size of the pitch field! When you play in the very low register, you would NOT want though that raising your left hand above the volume antenna would make the pitch rise.

Thus the important dimensional factor is the distance between the pitch rod and the center of the volume loop's eye. The size of the housing in-between is only of secondary relevance.

Distances between pitch rod and the center of the virtual circle part of the volume loop:

• Kees Enkelaar Theremin: 59cm
• Etherwave Standard: 63cm
• tVox tour: 68cm
