Hello,
I'm VERY new to the Theremin. (In fact, the Theremin i have purchased is being build right now. :-)

I was advised to download 'karaoke-binaries' from Usenet-groups to get music to play along with.

Please help me with the next questions:
Where do I find...
* A good free Usenet reader that does the job of downloading?
* Which free Usenet server(s) can I access to find for instance alt.binaries.sounds.karaoke?
* What other groups should I subscribe to?
* And than... having the binaries... with what good free software do I play these binaries?

Any help would be great.

Friendly greetings
Rens

I'd advise you not to go within a mile of alt.binaries.sounds.karaoke - it looks like virus heaven.

If you really must, I suggest you subscribe to alt.music.karaoke
via Google groups, read the faq and ask a few newbie questions first.

Alternatively there are plenty of web repositories of classical and popular midi files that will play in just about anything - quicktime, windows media player.

Uh-huh.

If you suggest what sort of music you are intending to play maybe someone with similar musical interests could make some suggestions.

I like electronix music.
Like Mike Oldfield, Andreas Volleweider, Tangerine Dream,......

And than there is Yello.
But who knows them? :-)

Me! I have The Race on 12" vinyl.

I think it might be hard to find a Tangerine Dream karaoke track.

One option that a lot of experimental thereminists choose is to buy a looper - accompany yourself!

I have ALL of them. :-)

What's a looper?

P.S. You ARE the forum? :-)

I need to get out more. In fact I'll be off recording an album for the next few days, so everyone else will get a chance to speak.

A looper is an effects pedal that records what you play, and then plays it back while you play something else over the top.

Google, again.
