Inspired by a tweet today (http://twitter.com/#!/MarmotFilker/status/28043199103), I think we should organize an International Theremin Day. Brainstorming a bit here, we can make it a day to raise awareness of the theremin by encouraging people to organize gigs, talks, show the documentary, give free lessons, etc. How about it? Maybe we start it on Lev Termen's birthday? Ideas?

It could be fun. Lev's birthday is at the end of August. I'm all for that, but the weather's still warm, so it might make it difficult to get participants to commit. They would have more incentive during late autumn, winter, or early spring (in the northern hemisphere at least).

You wouldn't get much help from Hallmark or American Greetings either. :-)

Just how does one get a day designated as "official" anyway?

Very good points. What other significant date in theremin history would you suggest?

I'm going to look into how to get a date marked "Official". If "Talk Like a Pirate Day" can happen, so can "International Theremin Day".

I thought of that as well. Too cliche, and people are busy doing other things.
