Someone recently sent me a link for the Simpsons/Star Trek mashup on YouTube, and (somehow I'd forgotten) the perpetrator is obviously "miming" his theremin performance for the camera.
I don't see this as cheating. Clearly, he wanted to make a funny video, and a shot of him actually playing the theremin would offer zero visual payoff, comedy-wise.
