My Name is THoM im from New Brunswick canada which in case you dont know is just northeast of maine on the east coast of canada. i work as a hotel reservation associate at a contact center for wyndham hotels. ive been playing guitar religiously for about 5 years now. i can keep up on a bass and stricly goof around on drums. i became passionatly obsessed with the theremin when i first heard about it through"an electonic oddessey"(i think thats what it was called) and also have heard it on alot of mike patton recordings such as mr.bungle and the fantomas. and since then have noticed it in alot of things from the beach boys(although that wasnt a TRUE theremin) to led zeppelin. i dont have one right now but im buying one in the next week-3weeks. and am currently shopping around. im really looking forward to learning one of the most intricate and complex instruments known to man.

Hello friends. I'm new to TW. I do not play Theremin myself. I prefer instruments that are only "extremely" difficult to play.

My interest in Theremin World is that I play in a band with a Theremin player. He's a member here and turned me onto this site. Our band is "Zentherstick."

Our instrumentation is:
Me on Zendrum
Theremin
Chapman Stick

We've been playing together for roughly 3 years and none of us feel like we're scratching the surface of our instruments. Do you ever?

I look forward to meeting some more theremin players. You guys are a unique bunch for sure.

I beg to differ, there is video evidence (http://zentherstick.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=34) that you play the theremin with three distinct parts of your anatomy. :-)

My name's Kev Williams, I'm currently serving with RAF in sunny Scotland. First heard of the theremin through the band Portishead(don't know if they used a real one or not)but it wasn't till a couple of years ago I started to entertain the idea of getting one. I went looking around various music shops and even electrical shops and soon realised that the instrument is pretty damn rare, certainly nobody seemed to stock them here in Britain. As a result I put the idea out of my head and concentrated on my guitar playing instead.
It was whilst on a 4 month bomb disposal tour in Iraq that I won one on e-bay. I returned from that tour with a whole different set of priorities than when I went out there and I now intend to make a serious go of making music. Having only recieved my Etherwave today I have a long way to go, but I am looking forward to the journey of discovery and having found this site it seems I will be well supported

I've just realised that despite floating about Theremin World for a couple of months now, and extracting plenty of useful knowledge prior to taking the plunge and buying one, I've never actually posted here.

I'm based in Perthshire, Scotland (Hi Kev, I guess you're just up the road!) and have been seriously interested in the theremin for about the last year, though I've since discovered several albums in my collection featuring the instrument, so maybe there was some subliminal influence over the years.

I've had my theremin since the end of last year, but have only just started seriously learning and practicing in the last couple of weeks, with some assistance from Peter Pringle's excellent DVD. Not ready for public consumption for at least another month or two, I think.

Hello, everyone.

Second post from a new member (just posted to the Carolina Eyck book drawing). This afternoon, I'll be stopping by UPS to (hopefully) pick up my brand new Moog Etherwave Standard. This will be my first ever experience with a Theremin. I have no formal music training. About all I do is poke around a little with a MIDI keyboard in GarageBand on my old PowerBook. My kids are both taking musics lessons, and I wanted to get a little more involved. And this instrument just calls out to me. Hearing Barbara Buchholz's "Theremin: Russia With Love" album finally convinced me to take the plunge. I understand that the theremin is a challenging instrument to learn to play, but I'd like to try.
