Wavelength, welcome to Theremin World.

I also play bass and guitar and I went through a sort of left-hand mobility problem once. It was temporary.

A few years ago I was cuting up an apple to feed to a deer I met in Germany and sliced off the tip of my left middle finger. It was hanging by a flap and I quickly stuck it back on and started asking around for band-aids (Only I didn't know the German word for band-aid...)

Anyway, long story less so, it took a few days to get medical attention and by that time the doctor didn't want to rip it back open to stitch it shut again so she showed me the proper way to bandage it and I went on my merry way.

The end of my finger was numb for several months and I did not play anything with strings for a while.

The point of this tale is that I had the chance to concentrate on the theremin.

The good news is that most of the feeling has come back and I can play guitar and type, although my playing has probably suffered and my typing was never any good anyway.

(I also have a built-in excuse for both now...)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the theremin as much as we do and do not get discouraged if it takes a while to make music with the thing..

band-aid = Hansaplast.

That is one of the very few things I remember from German lessons. Here is all the rest....

"Ach du Liebe Gott, Meine Bein ist Gebrochen. Lotte, hast du Hansaplast?"

Hopefully, if there is someone called Lotte present she will have more sense than to try to fix a broken leg with a band-aid.

(If you're in the UK, ask for an elastoplast!)

Just to add yet more obscure and completely irrelevant banter to this conversation (which seems to now have as much relation to the theremin as. . . . well. . . . most things)

'Alastorplast' is the name I give to one of my school friends named Alastair. 'A-last-or' was the first nickname I used, which sounds sort of Wizard/Dungeons and Dragons-esque, but then he suggested that that rhymed with Elastoplast when pronounced in a Liverpudlian accent, and so the name stuck (only I prefer the more ludicrous 'Elarstoplaast').

Useless piece of Trivia. And a name to call someone you know called Alastor.

Hi, I'm Kevin.

I discovered the theremin about eight months ago. A coworker and I were talking about electronic music and he asked me if I have ever heard of a theremin. At the time I had not.

The more research I did, the more I was hooked on this instrument. I come from a woodwind background - clarinet. Funny how I never "loved" the sound of the clarinet, only loved the final sound of everyone coming together to play a symphonic piece.

My real auditory loves are strings like violin or bass cello, and female singing voice. Now you can see why I was so intrigued by the theremin.

Four months ago, I bought a Moog Theremin Etherwave Pro. It is SN 187. Then a few weeks later, I purchased a Fender Blues Junior to go with it. They sound wonderful together!

I hope that in the future, I can contribute at least as much as I have received from this site. Nice to meet everyone!
