Moog theremin, Australia

Hi guys,

Just wondering are the power adaptors for the moogs eatherwave ment to have 2 or 3 prongs? Cos the one i got here in Melbourne Australia has only 2 prongs.

i been using a keyboard amp, and it works wonderfully, no hums..buzz..etc..

Could it be because the Amp has Three pins. meaning that its grounded?

But when I plug it to my recording interface on my laptop (powered via usb) it humming, lots of interference...

Could it be becos its not Grounded?

Lastly, Can someone pls tell me what did the power adaptor look like for your Moog theremin that you got. Both abroad and in Australia.

Cos the Theremin manual boolet mention about having 3 prongs... etc..

The one Here I got seems to be a third party brand..

About a Moog I don't know, but the grounding path for my Theremax is through the audio out jack to the amp, which has a grounding (3-prong) plug. Because of that, the wall wart power supply for the theremin is OK with only two prongs.

My etherwave definitely is grounded through the power lead, and the literature with it is emphatic that it must be grounded this way...

I'm in Oz but have the US-shipped 220V version which ships with a euro pin (2 round prong) Moog-(re)labelled adapter. I just tried a scientific experiment (ie putting an earphone directly into the output jack) and noticed a tuning shift, roughness of sound from tuning instability and the low range of the instrument tending to "stick" around the 50Hz hum frequency. So I'd say the 2-pin power supply doesn't earth like it should :-(

However...the Etherwave seems to be less fussy about grounding than other designs like the Jaycar deluxe-I managed to ground mine and get it to behave itself just by touching the hex nut around the output socket. Maybe run the output into a mixer which has good interconnection of the cable shields and run another lead from a second mixer input to a wrist strap or even just put in yr pocket?

I actually forgot to ask for a 220 v power supply, so got a US one which has three prong plug. Luckily having lived in the States in the 90's I have a lot of step down transformers, so it runs pretty well...

Thanks guys for the input, It just seems strange that moog will state the importance of a 3 pin grounded power adaptor.. yet ship it with only a 2 prong ones here in AU.

hmmm.. might just rip me out a middle prong of an old adaptor.. and drill a hole and aerodyte it on.... Will let u know how it goes...
