Looking for a Theremin+introduction

Wow...

To think that just a couple of weeks ago I was onm the brink of the end of time, and now I consider the Theremin as some sort of Deus-Ex Machina, a life saver, a giver of meaning and happiness to my pathetic human existence.

During my short life-span I tried the alt Saxophone (didn't practice at home- one of the biggest mistakes I've ever done) and the electric guitar which I just got sick of, waking up one day realizing how much I hate practicing speed...

But know, this amazing invention of this russian commred! Alas, Musician'sfriend doesn't ship Mood products to Israel!

Besides Moog, I feel I can't really trust other brands!

[b]Please, can you recommand me any other ways of acquiring one? I've read the buying guide on this site and then decided on the Moog standard...[b/]

Price is almost not important (I'm willing to spend any amount of money until about 1000 USD)...

Please, help dear friends.

Welcome to ThereminWorld Rasputin.
Well the theremin was something of a life saver for me too. It's a great thing to have in your life.

Where are you?
[updated, ah-ha Israel, damn my eyes, thanks Gordon!]

You can't go wrong with Moog, and you can get one at instrument pro and other vendors in the US.
The EtherWave Standard shows up often with some good deals on E-Bay.

For other options you can also try the Burns Pro (http://www.soundslikeburns.com/New_Items/pro.html) and his other models. And the WaveFront suitcase model (http://home.earthlink.net/~wavefront/) is still in production I think.

If you haven't yet, take a look at the links in the Getting Started side bar like our Buying Guide Page (http://www.thereminworld.com/article.asp?id=31) and Theremin Gallery (http://www.thereminworld.com/theremins.asp) as well as trying the Search (http://www.thereminworld.com/websearch.asp) here at TW, it's been discussed before and there is a ton of member suggestions in the forums.

Good luck, hope you can get your theremin soon,
keep us posted!

Hi Rasputin. You're in Israel?

Moog's official dealer in Israel is here:

http://www.red-studio.net/

They do not appear to stock etherwaves, but it might be worthwhile asking.

Also, you could ask Aharon Kotlar where he got his etherwave...

http://www.musicshow.co.il/theremin_en.htm

There is an email link and a phone number on his site's home page.

Gordon, you are the best web sluth!
(fix oops meant Sleuth, sorry GC...)
Ironic Red Studio doesn't stock them, they sure have enough pictures of theremins on their site.

And thanks helping get more Theremins all over the globe.

Actually, this was easy. Moog have a list of dealers on their site, sorted by country, and finding theremin related websites in the .il domain is like finding a needle in a haystack - a skill at which Google excels.

I learned from Urban Dictionary that a sluth is a sloth of easy virtue (or words to that effect.) It seems you know me better than I thought, John. :-)

Incidentally, Aharon Kotlar looks like a lot of after-dinner fun (*) and kudos to him for putting a theremin on Israeli TV.

(*) The link on his homepage to "pitty knites" is a vid of him playing two flexatones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexatone). Hmm. I've got a birthday coming up. Think I'll drop a hint to the missus. :-)

Dan, carport888, reminded us in the Roll Call thread of Tom Farrell's (http://www.thereminworld.com/news.asp?s=319) theremin site: theremin.tomfarrell.org (http://theremin.tomfarrell.org/)
he has a lot of info on buying a theremin there.
Thanks guys!
Good luck Rasputin, let us know how it works out.

Hello again!

Thanks you very much for all the answers, it seems that I cried for help a little too soon, the worst-case-scenario (which isn't that bad at all) is eBay, some dealers sell it new.

I remember seeing the theremin for the first time in an episode of "Cow and Chicken" cartoon. Back then I thought that this instrument was in the same category as the goblets-filled-with-water instrument- a myth... So great it exists.

I can only hope that I will be passionate about it as I was with the electric guitar, which sadly, after 4 years just wasn't the same feeling, anymore... You can't step in the same rivert twice I guess. But I'll try anyway.
