volume control options

Hi all,

I am a musician who has been interested in the theremin for some time. I have decided to build one and investigate the instrument's musical potential. I am a musician and not an electronics wizard, so I have been looking into already completed boards- namely the Theremaniac theremin kit. Christopher from the RS Theremin website states that the theremaniac can be converted into a loop-style volume control theremin. Does anyone know of any volume control circuits that could be integrated into the theremaniac to acheive this? External volume controls such as faders and pedals seem like cheating to me.
PS- Money is an issue, and this would be my first theremin, so thats why breaking down and buying an etherwave isn't an option right now.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention, incase someone is not farmiliar with this kit, that the theremaniac is a pitch-only theremin.

That just depends on your point of view. A more positive way of looking at pedals is that with a pitch only theremin, a volume pedal and an audio cut-off switch, you have the makings of the immediate predecessor of the theremin, namely the aetherphon.

After making my origional post, I looked deeper into the potential of using different effects pedals, and how the combination of pitch antenna and effects / volume control could produce different and almost more intriguing music. Plus, I thought about mounting a simple keyboard volume pedal on the enclusre itself, allowing the whole setup to still operate similar to a traditional theremin or other instrument. It may not be traditional, but I think it could be cool- in the mean time, I can start saving for the etherwave.

Or get y'self a stereo volume pedal and two pitch theremins - one for each hand.
