Sorry!
Seventeen inches is the space that I came upon when reviewing the PAiA lactern case and the PAiA provided pitch rod and volume loop dimensions.

Thanks, Gordon!

Good Luck!

50 cm = 19.6 inches
17 inches = 43 cm

Building my case to easily manufactured dimensions (18 inches, a foot and a half, three shaftmons) made the distance about 20 inches and a half = 52 cm. I gather that you want the antennae far enough apart that they don't significantly influence one another; this is also affected by the "size" of the field about the pitch antenna, which is controlled by the "pitch trim" knob. The distance should also be appropriate to your body size--roughly as far apart as your shoulders, so with your left hand over the loop, the right arm easily reaches out to the pitch rod. Maybe it would be different, a little closer together, if you used the Pringle method of playing (I'm speculating here), but the pitch trim setting should compensate easily.

thats nice. How does the volume work? If the response is not great you may try a traditional loop.

I guess it works fine. I just make noise to have fun with guests. Not too many chances to make noise with it.
