I started working on Art Harrisons 125 Theremin the other day:

and I had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer...

Will any 1mH coil work or do the other values make a difference? I was thinking of winding my own with 199 turns on a 2.25" dia. by 4" long piece of PVC.

Would a volume control similar to this one work?

And then, last but not least, I may get shot by a vintage radio collector for this one, but I pulled the amp out of an old emerson console and was wondering if I could use it...?
It uses 2 50eh5 tubes and a 12ax7 and it has a phono input and an input for an am/fm tuner. I was wondering if I could use one of the inputs & replace the 12ax7 with a 12au7 if needed, or if there was someplace I cold tie in a new input? I already paralleled the outputs into a single 8" speaker and that seems to work fairly well.

Thanks,

Perhaps your inquiries would be better suited on Lev Net.
Ask Rupert Capelle to ask Art Harrison.
Good Luck with that...

Why not skip the middleman and contact Art directly?

Thanks, that would be easier, however I think that I am going to wire it so that if the coils don't work, I can replace them with ones that will and just see if it works, If they work well, should I post the specs somewhere?

The old Emerson amp should work ok. It's not going to output much power ... maybe 5W per channel?

Try using the AM/FM input ... that should be line-level and would be suited to the theremin output. Don't change the 12AX7, though.

Thanks, I was playing around with it today and found the phono input works great for guitar but I really need to get an isolation transformer before I play around with it too much, finished the amp but am still waiting for a mouser package which is driving me crazy, but oh well, should be in today. Here is a pic of the amp, sorry to keep posting pics, I just think it looks pretty snazzy...

Thanks again,
