Next week I start my last year in the swedish counterpart to High School(it's almost the same thing) and I have a course called "Project". As my project I was thinking of building the theremin I have wanted for a long time from scratch and learn to play it.

The problem is that I don't know which model or schematic I should build. I have read trough the schematics section but i'm having trouble determining which one is suitable. I want a theremin that works and has all the standard features, kinda like the Etherwave.

I have only got some basic knowledge about electronics but i've got an uncle who is handy with a soldering iron, I'm eager to learn and I've got the whole year to finish my project.

So, which layout/schematic/project/whatever it's called do you suggest i build?

And if there are any swedes here please suggest a good place to buy parts. :)

Thanks in Advance!

I have learned a lot in building "A Transistorized Theremin" featured in an article from 1961 by Bob Moog. It is really worth to give it a try, though winding the coils and tuning it ain´t that easy and not recommendable. i must admit, that it finally resulted in a 3 octave instrument - with its own character. Later i found it much easier to use available coils for the pitch part. But the coils for the volume part still have to be self-wound.

There is much information ( about the Jaycar or Silicon Chip Theremin, the other one i have made experiences with. I did not like the way it changed timbre according to amplitude (in MY version it distorted not so useful at lower amplitude).

What i could provide you with would be either a heavily modified schematic of the latter or in advance with all parts including PCB´s and coils. If you are interested send me an email to theremin at subscope dot de.
