Etherwave Standard power up problem

Hi, Just when I was about to set up for a video shoot today, the theremin decided to go on strike.

Anyone have this problem?

The theremin has allways had a flaky power up problem in which you'd get a false start, and had to power down, wait for a couple of power pops, and then recycle the power switch after which you'd get a good start up.

Today was different. This time, all you get on power up, is a single power pop, but no start tone. On powering down, there is no double power pop, and no power up on the repeat switch throw.

I've contacted Moog, and I'm waiting for a response from them, but I thaught I'd toss this out to y'all, and see if anyone else has had this problem.

I've had this problem once before back in october, and Moog sort of fixed it, but they suspected the problem would crop back up which it has, so it's not totally unexpected with this issue.

Moral of this story: Allways have a backup! Especially when going pro.

Any thaughts?

Moog Music just contacted me, and they know exactly what's wrong with it, so the theremin is headed out for servicing. Nothing I could have fixed here anyway. I should have baught 2 theremins.

That DIN connector flexes quite a bit when the power supply is being plugged in, I'm interested to see if that's where the problem is or if it's in the actual circuitry.

My din connector was a bit wiggly on the pc board, but I was allways able to power up until yesterday, and once before back in August when I had to send it in for the same problem. The only hitch was frequent false starts. I talked with Amos at Moog, and he informed me that it's something on the board that needs to be pulled, and replaced. He's seen this before in a short run of the etherwave standards. He was pretty sure of that part back in August, and sinse he knows I run mine 12 hours a day, he wanted to use me as a benchmark to see when, or if it would fail completely, and yesterday was the day.

Sounds like a problem I saw as a bench tech for VeriFone, a run of bad capacitors that were used by the "smart regulator" to sense that +5V was good. The cap was between +5 and GND, and it would get leaky.
