Good one Thomas. Knowing that the theremin will play in Peoria is surely a step towards mainstream acceptance. :-)

Joking aside, congratulations on your forthcoming marriage, Chris, and welcome to Theremin World.

I am curious - most people associate the theremin with spooky sci-fi sounds. Were you aware of it's association with sacred music?

A couple of little facts to illustrate this - in the Etherwave Kit Assembly manual Bob Moog recommended painting the instrument white for religious performances. Back in 1924 Russian born composer Nicolas Obouchov was inspired by a theremin performance to create a related instrument - the Croix Sonore - "Sonorous Cross"- essentially a theremin in the shape of a large crucifix. If you have not yet decided on music to be played it might be worth considering some of his compositions.

Ah to play Peoria
good memory Gordon.

You triggered something from electro music,
It dawned on me that Science Fiction conventions and club meetings can be a great venue for theremin performance and outreach.
You can include the goofy stuff and lead folks to more solid music. And demonstrations would be well recieved I bet.

good luck in Peoria TG, let us know how it goes.
viva world thereminization!

Thanks all, we haven't hired anyone just yet. We're hoping to find someone more or less local, as we don't have the budget to bring someone from very far, so further applicants are encouraged. (I'll announce it here if we find someone.) We were not specifically aware of the connection to sacred music, but we love the sound and lean towards being spooky sci-fi people anyway. I've never heard Mr. Obouchov's music, I'll see if I can find some, thanks.

Regards
