Calibrating pitch
In the Hotroddng manual, it also says this: "Using a clip lead or a temporarily-soldered wire jumper, connect the two leads of C28 together. (C28 is a small capacitor, about 3" to the left of the PITCH ANTENNA connection on the Etherwave circuit board.)"
What is the purpose of jumpng the leads on that capacitor?
holy-moly... i kept on trying to reply to this thread since i had a couple of thierry's tuning posts bookmarked, and realized that the old posts were totally confusing me since i think i was trying to summarize information posted from when the inductance of the L5/L6 slugs increased clockwise vs. newer posts regarding the hexagonal slugs where inductance decreases clockwise...!!
anyhow, the short end of all of this is that if you are feeling intrepid about tackling L5 and trying to find increased linearity, consult this post from thierry (determine which coils you have so you know which way to turn), and shoot for a low L5 inductance/pitch antenna wire close to the foil...
PS (shooting for low inductance for linearity on L5 was from this older thierry post, but the slug turning directions are for the older slugs and are opposite for etherwaves with the newer hexagonal coils):
"So the first tuning principle should be to keep the inductance of L5 as low (counterclockwise) as possible and just as high as needed in order to obtain the desired highest audible frequency after having bent the wire in the right way. But be aware that the linearity will get worse with each halftone that you add."
