A Better Etherwave

I'm looking fwd to installing the mod in an Etherwave, but I'm hesitant to mod my signature series Etherwave #007. Something is making me want to keep it pristine, even if that means it's less playable. Is that insane?

Hi Jason. No, it's not insane. For one-offs, it's best to leave well enough alone if you want to maintain resale value of a collectable. However, You could simply mod a new theremin, and move the signature lid over to the new theremin, while keeping the old one in a safe place until you sell it or something. ;)

A note of caution. Installing an ESPE01 module can lead to buying a great big subwoofer to do justice to the extended range. :-)

When I made the first tests with a prototype of the ESPE01 and my Behringer Amp (10" speaker, 45W), some plaster fell off the ceiling...

 

I'd like to add happily that I made a successful test today. A modified version of the ESPE01 module, named the WFPE01 module, can be installed in the Wavefront Travel theremin to extend its pitch range in the same way. But this is NOT a DIY thing, the installation requires modifying the main circuit board, so that it should be shipped to me for that operation.

The field upgrade converts an Etherwave Standard to an Etherwave Plus.

Mr. Thierry that was you selling your mod on ebay right? Now that I look I can't seem to find it. Is the search feature failing me or are there just none available at the moment?

Has anyone tried installing it themselves? I've got some skills with a soldering iron but I don't want to ruin my Theremin. How would you rate difficulty on a scale of 1 - 10?

I just got a 50th Anniversary Etherwave. I'm wondering if I should even make the mod or keep the instrument in factory condition. Do you think a 50th Anniversary addition Theremin is any more or less valuable than any other addition?

 

Probably not but I would hate to do it and then find out I made a horrible mistake :-)

I haven't heard of that version before.  How is it different from a Standard or Plus?
