Contests... keep them or cut them?

Please put my 2 cents in the pot for keeping them as well.

I have been busy gigging (both with and without the theremin) but I will enter one of the contests soon.

YES KEEP THE CONTESTS! I have been checking everyday to see what the new song to learn will be. I think it is fun and educational. Now hurry up and post the new contest for this month so i can learn it and send it to you!

I enjoy hearing what others are doing and look forward to trying my hand at entering.

A composition contest would be fun, too.

Please keep them going for a while - at least until my theremin has arrived and I've had plenty of time to practice - so indefinitely, I suppose.

I'm not a theremin player -yet - (is that the right terminology btw - as the player is part of the circuit, perhaps the phrase Theremin Conductor would fit better :-) so not really sure what is appropriate music for the contest, but, much as I enjoy cheesy Americana, I would be curious to hear, for instance, Scarborough Fair, the Dr Who theme and Hills of the North, Rejoice.

i found doing the cometition was more helpful to me that I thought - it made me do a tune I wouldn't do normally including perhaps unfamiliar intervals and tempo.
I had to drill/rehearse to do it and that is helpful too - my playing after taking part in the competition was better than before

Yes please keep the COWtests. They will prove to be UDDERly usefull in providing insentive. Please post all of the entries. Hearing the different techniques would be of help.

Why not ask for 'the swan'... I think it's the most played classic musical piece in the theremin.

It's neither too structurally complicated or hard to play, and it's well known by theremin players.


I find pretty hard to study a tune I find boring or that lacks so much emotion....

And... I have no musical studies, so if I can, everybody can!

One classic that comes to mind is "Sheep May Safely Graze" by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Someone once told me (when I was playing Bassoon in the 1970s) that the actual translation of the word "sheep" in the title is closer to "mutton" - that is a sheep to eat, rather than one for wool. If that is the case then could not the title be:

Mutton May Munch unMenaced
