 Hello Jason, after inhaling some coffee myself I noticed a few things. (-;

 The count number under Views does not represent a subject’s interest in any realistic manner. In the same subject thread it counts every page click change including pages forward & backups (previous page). As a thread subject grows and has more than 10 posts it will add more pages increasing disproportionally the View count as the same researcher clicks through them all.

 Having a list of the most popularly visited webpage is gasoline on the above process as it currently operates!#$%^  Now a post with no value has the possibility of going viral only because of View count.

 Is there a method for the View to count “thread visits” and not every page switch within the same thread? Taking this to the next level would also prevent the same IP address from inflating the View count with extra visits on the same day or all the extra counts added when editing the text occurs.

 This improvement might encourage better thread Topic Headers, but this raises another question, why doesn’t the search engine acknowledge any words in the Title line much less the posters TW name? This is where important key words or people get mentioned and maybe only there.

 The search box needs a GO button next to it for old people like me.

Yeah, I've been having a similar thought.  What if we did something like the vote up/vote down approach?  Each person gets one vote to mark a thread interesting (or not).  Then we'd rank "popular" topics by their votes rather than views.  It's a more intentional gesture than simply viewing a topic to see what it's about.

Searching is a tricky deal.  I used to use Google to index and search the site, but then they started charging for that service.  I'm going to be adding a link from user profiles to see all the topics a person has posted to.  I hope that solves the "posts by user xyz" problem.  The search indexing code i'm using now is really fast, but a bit limited in that I can only choose one field to index, and I chose the post body.  I'll have to play with this a little more to see what I can work out.

I can definitely add a "Go" button - will bump that one up on the list.

 I never click on these things but it does seem like the best approach if a button is very accessible placed below each posters picture under Joined xx/xx/xx to the left of these words. This way if one particular post/writing is impressive you click it on the spot. IP Address recognition is still important but only blocks a extra vote if the total post count in that thread has not changed. You could place the personal Up Count Total in the user profile and thread up count in a column next to the Title as you now do Views.

 I don’t think having a down thumb would be beneficial.

 In a thread, when new text is typed into the posting text box, what if after hitting the post button the TW program adds the Title and current posters Nic at the top or bottom of the posting (sample at top of this post). This could be a very small font size. Then the search engine could find these key words. The edit process would bypass this step and would allow a user to erase it completely.

 This might encourage title detail by the original poster and keep a subject On Topic.

 Then search engine keywords: Reply by RS Theremin would bring up the webpages the author posted on.

I like the signature idea.  Lots of boards do that.  You could customize it a bit too.  I'll add that to the list.  I added your Go! button to the forum search box just now too.

I added back the link to all posts a user has made from their profile view tonight, as well as a link to all topics they've started.

Be careful - the lists of posts and topics aren't paged yet, so it's a bit like walking back in time from around 2005 when we started the forums!  For some of our users who are a bit talkative, their list might take a few seconds to load.

Id like to see the schematics and tech info tidied up.  The are a several dead links and how it is currently organized, I find frustrating.   All of the Keppinger pages, for example, should be grouped together.  Currently some are listed as Keppinger theremin, some MK theremin-pretty confusing.

Also, were are are the RCA schematics/ cabinet/ antenna drawings? 

Links to all the B.Moog theremin-building articles- EM , melodia?

There should be one reference directory with links to all the tech stuff, organized by the theremin to which it pertains. like- all RCA info- cabinet drawings, service manual, schematic,etc under " RCA";  all kep info/sites under "Keppinger  tube theremins;"   all the moog stuff together.  Then, maybe something like  "DIY tube theremin'' catch-alls for  the Art harrison, forbes, pierre kind of sites.

Awesome ideas Chobbs - thanks!  Would you like to see the schematics organized on separate pages by group, or would you like them tagged better so you could narrow down your search (e.g. "tube" and "Keppinger")?

I guess I think it would be best if, for example,  RCA had its own heading (seperate page or even just a heading/category in a index-type list)  and all the tech info specific to RCA's would be listed there, even links to "restoration" articles and sites.

Links could be listed in multiple categories.   Someone like Art Harrison could have his own heading with a link to his main page, but also direct links to his RCA  and SW theremin-specific pages would be listed with RCA and SW, respectively.   Moog would have a category, but links to "Building the EM" article could also be under  "DIY theremin".  

That maybe a lot of work and i guess better tagging would be just as good.   Really Id just be happy if the dead links were removed; the "lost" info returned(  RCA cabinet, antenna, etc drawings,   kep chassis drawings)  and just a little organization - like resolving kep tube vs mk tube...
