"discoveret.org" off line

The network that hosts the levnet - "discoveret.org" - seems to be down. This includes all of discoveret.org's special interest groups, not just the levnet.

There seems to have been some malicious cybervandalism on discoveret lately where people whose email addresses are privately published on group subscriber lists (which includes the levnet) have been unknowingly subscribed to groups they don't want to belong to.

Suddenly levnetters start receiving email from sigs like "the collie dog association of West Tennessee"..etc. And of course all those collie dog owners start receiving theremin announcements.

Let's hope discoveret will be back up and running soon.

Hmmmm...

when I navigate to the url www.discoveret.org, I find the following on top of the page:

Notice
DiscoverET.org will no longer be available after January 7, 2013. It has been a pleasure to serve the East Tennessee community since 1995.

... and now discoveret.org is offline, but Google's cache of the page confirms Thierry's observation. It looks very final to me.

I have notified Pierce Krouse (levnet's sys admin) by email, and suggest we use this thread to formulate a "Plan B".

OMIGOD!

The Levnet is DEAD!

Remember the palindrome on the name TERMEN.

"Termen ne mreT"  = "Theremin does not die"

O.K. everybody.......big group hug.

Fear not, Peter, The Levnet will rise again. Pierce and I are on the case, and will have an announcement in due course. Hopefully quite soon.

In the meantime, if anyone contacts you about this, please direct them here.

Oh dear, when you're a theremin player and Legendary Pink Dots fan you're hit two times as hard by this. Hope there will be a Levnet 2.0, fresh start.

Will the Levnet archive be preserved?

It's really pretty sad that they just pulled the plug on all the discoveret.org discussion groups. Some of the participants (me included) have been a part of Levnet since the very day it was set up by Dave Ball 1997, just after the "First International Theremin Festival" in Portland, Maine. What a heady time that was for the theremin!

Re Jason's question, since the whole discover.net domain seems to have gone *POOF* I doubt it. I used to have all the digests from the beginning but lost them after a fatal hard disk crash. I presently have them back to November 2002. They're in Thunderbird email format so I don't know how they could be exported to, like, a MSWord document but surely it's possible.
